BLACKSTOCK, ON – On Sunday, March 13th the Durham Federal Liberal Association in conjunction with Party members, friends and supporters celebrated the nomination of Grant Humes at the Blackstock Recreation Centre.

“It is an honour and privilege to be your Liberal candidate in the next federal election,” Humes told the gathering. “Together, we are going to send a strong a message to Ms. Oda that Durham Riding deserves better.”

Surrounded by family and friends, Humes accepted his nomination before a group of supporters still buoyed from the Durham Deserves Better Rally that drew over 130 residents to the same location just eight days prior. Humes talked of the opportunities that lay ahead for Durham.

“We will have an opportunity to provide the kind of representation we all deserve. The citizens of our riding ask for nothing more than an open and honest Member of Parliament. It’s a question of integrity,” said Humes.

Citing the recent maelstrom of controversy and condemnation surrounding both Durham M.P. Bev Oda, who ordered a funding document doctored and then mislead the House of Commons about it, and the Harper government, Mr. Humes talked of change in the riding and the country.

“We desperately need a shake-up in Ottawa. Ms. Oda is a product of a government that stands in contempt of Parliament, undermines our democracy, withholds true costing of legislation, and fails to listen to the people who put them there,” Humes said.

“This is the message I will be taking door-to-door, community after community. We are ready to go in the event of a Spring election and I look forward to working with all of you.”
